Elopement – “a marriage conducted in sudden and secretive fashion, usually involving a hurried flight away from one’s place of residence together with one’s beloved with the intention of getting married”.
Well there’s your dictionary definition and it certainly conjures up images of young couples escaping to Gretna Green, breathlessly stumbling into remote churches and making a lifelong pledge to one another in the name of true and everlasting love! Okay – it might not quite happen like that anymore but there is something quite exciting about a bride and groom taking off in secret to get married 🙂
Steve & Sarah picked Brighton Town Hall for their (almost) secret Brighton elopement because Steve’s favourite band were playing in the city that evening so why not combine the two and make a day and a night of it? No fuss. No frills. No dress, no suit, no bouquet, no guests. Just Alex and I as their witnesses and a good old fashioned certainty that after a long time together it was time to make it official. I bloody loved it!
After the ceremony we braved it on to a typically blustery Brighton beach for a few photos, then said our goodbyes and Sarah & Steve headed off for a bite to eat, looking forward to the gig later on that night. Done and dusted 🙂
