If I had a pound for each and every time a bride to be said to me “I hate how I look in photos!” I’d be one very rich photographer. I tend to find that the biggest concern facing a groom on the wedding day is trying not to blink and where to put his hands so he doesn’t look like he’s lined up and ready to deflect a free kick! For the bride it’s a whole different ball game. Weight, height, nose length, bum size. And so the list goes on.
Whoa! Back up there ladies. I’m just going to say a couple of things – no one is looking at your bottom on your wedding day (except maybe your new spouse for an entirely different reason all together!), life is short and food is just too damn tasty.
Seriously – do you want to know what your friends and family are really looking at on this most fantastic day of your life? What they are actually seeing? What I am seeing? You. Valued, loved familiar. From the childhood scar above your right eyebrow, to the way you look just like your Dad when you laugh.
And your husband or wife to be? They are looking at this amazing woman – the only woman – they want to spend the rest of their lives with. When you look back at your photos yes, I’ll make absolutely sure that you are naturally posed in flattering light and will never ask you to do anything that makes you look or feel uncomfortable.
But the most important thing I want you to see are the pictures of your husband, your wife, your family, your friends just enjoying you for being you, the past memories you share, the ones you are making in this moment and the promise of those yet to come.
It really is that simple.
