Mike & Tracey’s rainy Brighton elopement saw us going into battle, umbrellas at the ready, with the elements but the atrocious weather didn’t stop play for one moment! The couple love Brighton and visit every year, so couldn’t think of a better place to tie the knot!
Mike & Tracey had seen Steve and Sarah’s Brighton elopement on my blog and this was my second wedding at Brighton Town Hall both shooting and acting as a witness with my other half. With just the two of them present we had plenty of time after the ceremony to go for a stroll and take in some of Brighton’s iconic sights. What we’d not quite bargained for was the relentless driving rain and gale force winds that greeted us as we made for the seafront!
As regular readers of the blog will know, the couples I shoot are nothing but stoic in the face of bad weather during our typical British summers (and last season didn’t disappoint on that front!) but this was bad weather on an entirely new scale!
Determined to get at least one photograph in front of the Pier, we gamely headed off, losing one umbrella to the wind along the way and managed to get the photo before the lens fogged up and thoughts turned to a nice sit down in the dry with a well deserved and celebratory drink!
Stopping off along the way for a bit of respite in the brightly painted bus shelter at the Old Steine, we battled on through Pavilion Gardens and along to the Coach House for a swift one! I just love the look on Mike’s face as he peered out from under cover of the courtyard at the soggy conditions and braced himself for a quick dash through the lanes to the couple’s favourite haunt and oldest pub in Brighton, The Cricketers, for lunch. This is where I left them still smiling, even in the face of all that rain, to enjoy the rest of their day together. And would you believe that not moments later the clouds parted and the sun came out!
If you are thinking about eloping to Brighton for your wedding, whether it’s just the two of you or with your closest family and friends, I’d love to hear all about your plans! You can see more Brighton weddings on my blog 🙂
